Poor academic performance of students

Correction: No academic supervision

As the examinations are around the corner, every teacher is getting some complaints from parents for the poor academic performance of their wards. Every student should understand that, we are the problem and we are the solution. Parents provide all supports to students for the betterment of their wards in their academic performance. They spend major portion of their earnings for the educational needs of their children. Students should introspect where they go wrong for their poor acadeic performance. Every student should ask these questions to themselves. We can find out the soultion definitely if we sincerly approach to solve the issues.

  1. Poor attendance: This is a major cause for all such issues. Give always 100% attendance. Never be late to the classes whether it is direct or online or any live session. If you miss any class or lecture, you may not be able to understand some core concepts. You will miss lot of tips and direct motivation of the faculty.
  2. Disobedience to parents: If you are aggressive and disobedient to your parents, you can never win anything in your life. Be polite to your elders and parents. Things will automatically change in your life, and you will develop some regular good habbits like getting up early morning, avoiding late night unwanted habbits. If you do not have a good blue print of your life, nothing can be achieved.
  3. No parental guidelines: In some homes, parents do not play as role models to their wards. They do not follow some good routines but insist their wards to follow their guidelines. First of all such parents should correct themselves and in turn they will get good results from their wards. Some parents may not be educated enough to supervise their wards. They may claim that they are too busy. But it is not true. Your wards are more important than anything in this world. If the parents ignore their children at the right time, they will be ignored in their later stage. Beware, there should always be some work-life balance. Parents should talk to their children daily, exchange their views in taking small decisions at home; they should not always show their upper hand and advise them; they should seek their opinion; just try to collaborate with them even in their regular study support activities like drawing, arranging their books, getting references from website, collecting books from library, etc.
  4. No mentor: Motivation is required even to an old man who is in the last stage of his life. After all our young students are badly in need of some motivators. They are really the messengers of God, the true gurus who are capable making lot of changes in the minds of young hearts. It is the duty of parents to seek such good academic guru in the vicinity of their residence. Parents should never talk ill of the mentors in presence of their wards. If there is a misunderstanding it should be directly sorted out with their mentor, who is their Gula Guru. Nowadays, getting such family mentor is very difficult. Yet, the parents should try to get such family academic mentor. Never run behind the branded institutes just because of their catchy advertisements.
  5. No study material: A good collection of study materials is inevitable even in the beginning of the course. Go through the text books line by line. You may need a good dictionary for every subject besides the English language dictionary. Students should be first of all familiar with the terms and definitions. These reference books, guides and study notes of senior students are really helpful to students when they study the text book. Students should compulsorily take down notes of their own when the go through the books. Drawing and working out are the essential parts of studies. When a student attempts to draw geometry, he should have a good geometry box. Logarithm table, calculator, good fountain ink pen, pencils and eraser are very essential. Good students have sufficient stationaries on their study table.
  6. No academic supervision: Every teacher will give some assignments, worksheets and tests. Students are expected to follow the instructions of the teachers. Teachers do have regular personal interaction with the students. Yet, if the senior students demand more such direct supervisions, it affect the academic proceedings of the teacher. Allow the teachers to give more lectures, more doubt clarification sessions, and more revisions. Nowdays teachers need to conduct parenting sessions too.
  7. Not coopertaive with the faculty: Some students are not cooperative with their faculty members. It is not advisable. If you have any issue, seek the guidelines of the teachers. Try to win the heart of a teacher. No good teacher will do injustice to his students. The parents pay the tuitions fees to the teachers. But, what is the contribution of the students? They should necessarily follow the instructions of their teachers. They should not simply blame the teachers for their own failures.
  8. 1:4:2 Learning Strategy not followed: Please go through this video where I have explained about 1:4:2 learning strategy. If a teacher takes concept for an hour, the student should spend 4 hours of studying the same concept in depth and practice by writing and drawing and should be willing to take the test in the same concept and clear centum within 3 levels in 2 hours. It is not important that how many topics you have studied, it is very important that to what extent you have studied each topic profoundly.
  9. Lack of interest: For everything it needs a basic interest. You should know when you do anything, why you are doing, what you are going to get as benefits. Without purpose you cannot do anything. Develop basic interest to know things in the right way. The major reason for lack of interest is that we have some grey unknown areas. We are unable to connect the unknown things with the known points. Consult your teacher with your parents. Try to understand the need of your chosen studies. You need a good counselling. After that, try to put into practice. Try to achieve some success points in small tasks.
  10. Diversions with social media and friends: The real obstacle of your studies is social media. Avoid electronic gadgets to the maximum extent. Take a pen or pencil, Write down notes from the hard copies.
