Speech

Respected Dignitaries, Guests, and Members of IPCA,

It is a great honor to address this gathering at the inauguration of the Tamil Nadu chapter of the Indian Paint & Coating Association. Today, I wish to briefly highlight three aspects shaping our industry: Formulation Cards, Surface Coating Training, and Emerging Trends in Coating Technologies.

Formulation Cards – A Modern Knowledge Tool

Formulation Cards are concise, structured technical sheets that capture the essential “recipe” of a coating—raw materials, percentages, processing steps, and performance metrics. They serve as quick-reference guides for formulators, R&D chemists, and production teams. At Saitech Informatics, we have been promoting these as dynamic learning aids that integrate QR codes, worksheets, and testing data. They simplify technology transfer, ensure process consistency, and help even small-scale manufacturers adopt best practices with minimal trial-and-error.

Surface Coating Training – Bridging Industry and Academia

The paint industry today faces a serious talent gap. Many chemists enter the field without structured exposure to practical surface treatment, pretreatment chemistry, or modern QC techniques. Through surface coating training modules, professionals can upskill in areas like:

  • Trication phosphate and nano-ceramic pretreatments.
  • Waterborne acrylic and polyurethane dispersions.
  • Powder coating formulations and troubleshooting.
  • Sustainability compliance (RoHS, REACH, BIS standards).

Such programs not only enhance technical competency but also reduce rejections, improve durability, and accelerate innovation.

Trending Technologies Among Paint Manufacturers

Globally and in India, three coating trends are gaining momentum:

  1. Waterborne & High-Solid Systems – Driven by VOC regulations, industries are moving towards eco-friendly dispersions and hybrid emulsions.
  2. Functional & Smart Coatings – Heat-reflective, anti-corrosive, and self-cleaning paints are in demand, especially in construction and automotive sectors.
  3. Digitalization in Coatings – AI-assisted formulation, QR-enabled process tracking, and data-driven R&D pipelines are transforming how manufacturers innovate and scale.

Together, these trends align with sustainability, performance, and customer-centric innovation.

In conclusion, the future of coatings lies not just in chemistry but in structured knowledge tools, hands-on training, and adoption of emerging technologies. IPCA’s initiative to expand into Tamil Nadu will provide an excellent platform to synergize academia, R&D, and manufacturers.

Thank you.
