Name Origin: The name “Maravanthe” is believed to be derived from the nearby Maraswamy (also known as Maharajaswamy) Shri Varaha Temple. This temple, situated across the highway on the banks of the Souparnika River, is notable for housing three idols representing Lord Vishnu’s avatars: Varaha, Narasimha, and Vishnu himself.
Local Legend: According to local tradition, the beach is named after Marasura, a legendary demon king who is said to have tormented the area in ancient times.
Fishing Heritage: Historically, Maravanthe has been a hub for local fishermen and traders. The community has relied on fishing as a primary livelihood, using native boats and small diesel trawlers.
