Core Problems faced in Tamilnadu

Dear Team,
In continuation of our STEM Seminar I would like to form a research pool with the active members belonging to different fields, viz., Metal Finishing, IT, Mechanical Engineering, Sensors, Chemistry, Commerce and Business Administration. This research pool is formed to undertake a multidisciplinary techno-commercial projects that solve our day to day problem. We have identified certain multidisciplinary projects. PG or UG candidates with industrial experience can register here.

Best Wishes,

Dr E. Ramanathan PhD

Cost Effective Projects

The costs associated with each approach depend on several factors, including the scale of implementation, existing infrastructure, and technological readiness. Generally, the following can be considered low-cost options:

  1. Metal Finishing:
    • Low-cost processes include basic corrosion resistance for pipelines or small-scale protective coatings for artifacts.
  2. Sensors:
    • IoT-based sensors for water monitoring or soil moisture detection are relatively low-cost if implemented on a smaller scale with open-source platforms.
  3. Information Technology (IT):
    • Developing mobile apps for tracking waste or crop monitoring using off-the-shelf software and cloud-based solutions can be low-cost.
  4. Mechanical Engineering:
    • Small-scale solutions like basic automated irrigation systems or locally manufactured composting machines can reduce costs significantly.
  5. Chemistry:
    • Eco-friendly fertilizers and basic purification technologies are generally cost-effective compared to advanced battery technologies or low-emission industrial processes.
  6. Commerce & Business Administration:
    • Farmer training programs, circular economy models, and basic green certifications often require less upfront capital but yield high returns.

Among these, Commerce & Business Administration initiatives (e.g., public-private partnerships or training programs) and Sensors (if implemented on a small scale) tend to be the most cost-efficient. Advanced technologies in chemistry and mechanical engineering, like battery innovations or energy-efficient machinery, generally require higher initial investment.
