Why choose Styrene-acrylic emulsion?
Balances cost/performance for primer & putty applications, supports high pigment loading, and offers robust alkali resistance needed on fresh masonry. Formulation Pointers
- Coalescence: With MFFT ≈ 17 °C, add coalescent (e.g., DPM/Texanol/TPM) ~1.0–2.5% on binder solids for low-temp film formation; optimize by scrub & block tests.
- pH Window: Maintain mill-base pH 8.5–9.5 (ammonia/AMP/NaOH) for stability; check post-add pH drift.
- PVC: Suited for medium-to-high PVC systems (primers/putties). Ensure CPVC margin for scrub resistance.
- Dispersants: Sodium polyacrylate/AA-MA types; target Grind ≤ Hegman 6.5 for TiO₂/Extenders.
- Thickening: HEUR/HASE blends for ICI 0.5–0.8 Pa·s and KU 90–100 (primer). Adjust for application method.
- Additives: Silicone/Silane defoamers (two-stage), wetting agents (low foam), in-can + dry-film preservatives as per local regulations.
Processing & QC
- Order of Addition: Water → Dispersant → Wetting → Defoamer → Pigments/Extenders (grind) → Binder (let-down) → Rheology → Coalescent → Biocide → Final adjust.
- Key Tests: SG, NV%, pH, KU/ICI, Scrub (IS/ASTM), Adhesion (X-cut), Alkali resistance, Water soak, Salt spray for primers on metal masonry interfaces where applicable.
- Shear: Avoid over-shear post-let-down to prevent viscosity drop & foam entrapment.
Substrate & Environment
- Ensure surface is sound, clean, dry; moisture < 12% for masonry; pH ≤ 10 for fresh cement surfaces.
- Application temp ≥ 10–12 °C; avoid condensation/dew within 24 h of application.
Storage & Handling
- Store sealed at ~15–30 °C; protect from frost & direct sun.
- Use clean lines/pumps; avoid copper/brass contact; follow FIFO.
Note: Values shown are typical. Always confirm with the latest official TDS/SDS from Jesons for your supply lot and regional compliance. Conduct lab validation and pilot trials before production.
