Significance of Onam Festival

Balichakravarthy realized that even a blade of grass cannot move without God. “Anyone knows the great power of the Divine Sankalpa. From the ant to the earth, the Lord is present in everything. People are ignorant of this truth,” he said.
Balichakravarthy was a perfect surrenderer to the Lord. Under his rule all the subjects were happy and led pious lives. Saddened by the thought of being separated from his people, he said, “My dear citizens! I Can’t Be Apart From You; You can’t be apart from me. So every year I will appear before you and make you happy.”
Onam is the day when Balichakravarthy fulfills his promise. Onam is the festival of getting up early in the morning, bathing, putting on new clothes and worshiping the Lord. What is the meaning of putting on new clothes? Vastra is one of the names for the heart. Putting on new clothes means purifying the heart. The Lord chooses only the pure heart to enshrine.
There is no point in wearing new clothes if they are impure. So, keep the heart pure. A king must have suitable subjects; There should also be a king suitable for the citizens. The unity of these two is the true Atma philosophy.
