Usually flashcards have the post card size (3 inches x 5 inches). In the olden days, our forefathers had used suvadis like flashcards. They contained important slokas, verses, poems, grammar, riddles, historical documents, etc. They too had used software and hardware. We may consider these suvadis as software and kalvettu and seppu pattayams as hardware, where our elders had docummented importent events, poems, etc. We can even consider developing suvadi like flashcards, copper pattyam like flashcards.
Why flashcards are important?
Our children are tired of viewing smartphone, ipads, laptops and desktops during the pandemic situation due to COVID-19. Switching over to activity based learning is an immediated step to consider for children especially for school goers. Making flashcard is one of the best learning activities. One can use it for learning as well as for self assessment. This is useful for all age groups.
Even newborn babies can learn to identify the object, colour, counts, sounds etc using flashcards. Many Indian mothers appreciated this idea of teaching their wards using attractive flashcards instead of displaying images and video on electronic gadgets.
