Pigment–Binder Ratio (P/B)

Balance hiding power vs. mechanical strength.
P/B = Pigment weight ÷ Binder solids.

Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC)

Multi-component pigments + binders. Volumes = weight / density.
PVC (%) = Vpig / (Vpig + Vbinder) × 100.

CPVC Estimator (Oil Absorption method)

Quick estimate using oil absorption and binder density. For mixed pigments, use a weighted average OA.
Formula used: CPVC ≈ (OA × ρb) / (OA × ρb + 1) × 100. Approximate only.

Gloss & Porosity Predictor

Qualitative prediction from PVC vs CPVC.
Rules of thumb: PVC ≪ CPVC → higher gloss/low porosity; near CPVC → matte onset; > CPVC → porous/chalky risk.

DFT ↔ WFT Calculator

WFT = DFT / Volume solids fraction. If spraying, adjust for transfer efficiency.
If WFT is applied and TE < 100%, effective DFT reduces by TE.

Coverage / Spreading Rate

Theoretical coverage (m²/L) = (Volume solids % × 10) / DFT (μm).
Practical coverage is lower due to losses, profile, and overlap.

VOC Calculator

Two modes: (A) sum of solvents; (B) from paint density & solids by weight.
Mode A — by solvents
Enter individual solvent masses and batch volume.
Mode B — by density & solids
Mode A: VOC (g/L) = Σ solvent mass (g) ÷ batch volume (L).
Mode B: VOC (g/L) ≈ (Paint density × 1000) × (1 − NVwt) assuming volatiles ≈ solvents.

Batch Scaling & BOM

Enter base formulation as “parts by weight” and target total batch weight.
Weight (kg) = (parts / Σparts) × target batch total. Density (if provided) is used only for cost/L later.

Cost Estimator

Use the same table inputs (name, parts, price/kg, density). Then compute cost/kg and cost/L.
Cost/kg = Σ(component kg × ₹/kg) ÷ total kg. Cost/L = Cost/kg × kg/L.

Notes & Assumptions

  • CPVC estimator is approximate; lab validation (gloss, permeability, scrub) is essential.
  • VOC Mode B assumes volatiles ≈ solvents and ignores small moisture/reactive losses.
  • Coverage is theoretical; profile, edge effects, and overspray reduce practical values.
  • Use accurate densities (g/cm³ ≡ g/mL) for pigments and binders to improve PVC accuracy.
